About Me

My name is Leslie Meltzer, and I'd like to welcome you to the online home of my creative world, 50 sq ft studios.

Based in the Seattle area, I am a sewist that loves to make quilts, bags, and whatever else strikes my fancy from moment to moment.

I am a freelance technical editor and Aurifil Artisan, plus I'm also an avid fabric collector, instructor, pattern tester, sample maker, and VERY occasional blogger.

My passion for sewing ignited in 2012 when I woke up one morning and decided that I wanted to learn how to sew. My only previous sewing experience was an epic fail pair of shorts in a Home Economics class in middle school in the late 1980s.

If you are curious for the reasoning behind picking the name 50 sq ft studios, 50 square feet is the size of the space formerly occupied by my kitchen/dining table and chairs. It is more like 25 square feet of full-time sewing space and approximately 25 square feet of other space that I use for sewing related activities (pressing, cutting, etc) and for crazy things like walking from my kitchen to the couch in my living room.

I split most of my time between sewing, technical editing, spending time with my husband and cats, and fueling my Instagram addiction (I'm lelliebunny on most social media platforms).
